Students’ Union Mental Health Month

During March, the Students’ Union is committed to drawing additional attention to resources, programming, and events to promote positive mental health on Laurier’s campuses. Apart from our programming and resources, we aim to highlight all mental health initiatives run by campus partners such as Laurier Athletics, Student Associations, Wellness Education, and more. March 28 @ 7 PM: Shapes and Sounds: Yoga and Music Healing with Alysha Brilla
90 minute co-facilitated Shapes and Sounds workshops includes guided yoga, live performance of music by Alysha Brilla and Desiree Dawson and a journaling prompt. Join on Zoom.

March 29 @ 3 PM: Exam and Performance Anxiety with Wellness Education
Learn ways to handle performance anxiety, improve your mental game, and find inner calm during midterms and exams.  This workshop will also address the additional stresses caused by online exams. Register on their website.

March 30 @ 6 PM: Therapy Dogs *SOLD OUT*
Therapy dogs will be at the University Stadium Gym from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m., time slots are limited so sign up quickly to reserve your spot for a little pre-exam stress relief. Register here.

March 31 @ 3 PM: Social Media and Mental Health with Wellness Education
This workshop will address how social media affects mental health.  It will give particular attention to the impact of social media and the news during the stress and isolation of the pandemic, and it will discuss strategies for managing stress and setting healthy boundaries. Submit a TikTok about what you do in a day or how you take care of your mental health to FLASS via Instagram DM or email. Students will start voting for their favourite on March 9.

March 11 @ 7:30 PM – 11 PM: AUS Movie Night – Inside Out
In celebration of Mental Health Month AUS is hosting a movie night! Join us for a showing of the Pixar movie, Inside Out and snacks.

March 14 @ 12 PM – 3 PM: AUS Krispy Kreme Fundraiser
AUS is collaborating with KHPLaurier to raise awareness on mental health and will be selling Krispy Kreme donuts, with all money raised will be donated to the Kids Help Phone organization.

March 15 @ 2:30 PM: @laurierwellness is hosting “Happiness 101”. Learn about Positive Psychology and the secrets to increasing positive emotions, decreasing negativity, and creating satisfaction in satisfaction. Register at their link in bio.

March 16 @ 8 PM: Sit back, relax, and take some time to enjoy yourself in a creative way! Join @auslaurier for a virtual Paint Night! 🎨🖼✨
Come pick up your paint kits at the AUS office from 12-5 pm on March 16th and join their Zoom link later at 8 pm for a tutorial!

March 22 @ 2:30 PM: Everyday Mindfulness with Wellness Education
In this workshop you will learn and practice a number of mindfulness techniques that you can use in a variety of situations in your everyday life. Register on their website.
