The elected positions with the Students’ Union are:
1 President & CEO:
- Serves as the official spokesperson for the Students’ Union
- Oversees all functions and departments of the Students’ Union
- Frequently communicates with university administration, city officials, and Provincial and Federal members of Parliament
12 members of the Board of Directors
- This role is comparable to other Board of Director positions throughout the not-for-profit sector
- Leads the long-term strategic direction of the Students’ Union
- Analyzes and develops high-level policy for organizational growth
- Monitors the performance of the President based on a set of Board-mandated policies
Wilfrid Laurier University is governed by a bicameral (two branch) system, consisting of the Senate and the Board of Governors. The elected positions with the University are:
6 student representatives on the Senate
- The Senate deals with the educational policies of the University and makes recommendations to the Board of Governors with respect to the operation of the institution
- Students will have the opportunity to participate in discussion and debate on these areas of influence, including possible participation on the following committees:
- Academic Planning
- Executive and Finance
- Governance
- Honorary Degree
- Student Appeals
- Teaching and Learning
1 student representative on the Board of Governors
- The Board of Governors deals with the control of the institution’s property, its revenues, and the conduct of its business and affairs
- Students will have the opportunity to participate in discussion and debate on these areas of influence, including possible participation on the following committees:
- Executive
- Audit, Risk & Compliance
- Finance, Investments & Property
- Human Resources
