Acknowledging Board Resignations

 
We strive to ensure that all staff, volunteers, and Directors of the Board, have a positive experience throughout their time with the Students’ Union. We take the issues and concerns expressed by the departing Directors very seriously and have, as a result, undertaken an internal review of how Board Meetings are run in order to avoid situations like this from occurring in the future. The internal review produced the following recommendations:
  • A commitment by the Operations team to inform the Board of ongoing equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts and initiatives 
  • Leadership training for both the Chair and the Vice Chair of the Board
  • Governance training facilitated by an external subject matter expert to highlight the roles and responsibilities of both the Board as a whole and individual Board members
  • Equity, diversity, and inclusion training facilitated by an external subject matter expert
  • Ensuring Board members are aware of the resources and methods to address any concerns they may have and receive any additional support as needed
