2021 Referendum Questions

Do you support raising the Undergraduate Health Plan fee in order to provide students with extended health and drug benefits, including for oral contraceptives, mental health supports, vision coverage, physical therapy, travel insurance, and accident expenses? The fee will be increased by $75.41 and adjusted annually by the cost of inflation.

Yes: Oral contraceptive coverage will be added to the health plan on September 1, 2021, with the opportunity to make improvements to the plan (including extended coverage for vision, dental, mental health, etc.) in the future.

No: Oral contraceptives will continue to not be covered by the health plan, no improvements will be made to the plan, and existing coverage may continue to decrease due to the instability of the plan.

Do you support the implementation of a Laurier Transition fee of $125 to fund orientation activities, the Laurier 101 program, and other initiatives designed to improve the transition to university life? This fee is paid by incoming undergraduate students during their first term of study on all Laurier campuses, and will be adjusted annually by the cost of inflation (Consumer Price Index).

Yes: All first-year students will pay a fee that supports equitable transition programming on all Laurier campuses. This fee can be paid with OSAP or other financial aid

No: Students who wish to participate in Laurier’s transition programming will have to pay these expenses out-of-pocket at a higher cost.

Brantford Student Life Levy: Do you support the renewal of the Student Life Levy, a fee that enhances students life through project funding such as the Student Centre multi-purpose room and commuter lounge, the campus digital display screens, and the Podcast Accelerator Scholarships? This fee will be assessed at $4.47 per 0.5 credit, adjusted annually by the cost of inflation (Consumer Price Index).

Yes: One time special projects that enhance the undergraduate student experience on the Brantford and Waterloo campuses will continue to be funded.
No: These types of projects will not be possible on campus which will take opportunities for students to engage in activities leading to the improved personal health and wellness, and opportunities for students to engage each other and their environment in a culture of learning outside of the physical classroom space away.

Waterloo Student Life Levy: Do you support the renewal of the Student Life Levy, a fee that enhances students life through project funding such as the Alumni Field Project, the laptop loan program, and the Northdale community garden? This fee will be assessed at $9.77 per 0.5 credit, adjusted annually by the cost of inflation (Consumer Price Index).

Yes: One time special projects that enhance the undergraduate student experience on the Brantford and Waterloo campuses will continue to be funded.
No: These types of projects will not be possible on campus which will take opportunities for students to engage in activities leading to the improved personal health and wellness, and opportunities for students to engage each other and their environment in a culture of learning outside of the physical classroom space away.
