Thrive is a week-long series of free events at Laurier for students that focus on building positive mental health.  Events are running from Monday March 4thFriday March 8th in Brantford.

Monday March 4th

9:00AM-9:30am: CROSSFIT/BURN hitt class (Crossfit durst)

A workout composed of body weight movements + strength training and high-intensity conditioning.

9:30am-10:30am: YOGA CLASS (Laurier brantford ymca studio a)

12:00PM-1pm: MOOD WALKS

ALL Afternoon: alc’s headspace mindfulness challenge

Tuesday March 5th

10:00am: pancake breakfast

Free breakfast & career centre drop in for transfer students.

11:30AM-1:30pm: Paint a Piggy bank (Commuter lounge)

Painting and financial wellness tips!

7:00pm-7:45pm: Tom wilson guest speaker (SCJ127)

Indigenous & addictions speaker.

Wednesday March 6th

9:00AM-9:30am: CROSSFIT/BURN hitt class (Crossfit durst)

11:00am-2:00pm: Mental health expo

3:00pm-4:00pm: the balancing act (rcw324)

Striking a balance between academics, work, and family can be a difficult thing to do. Join the Wellness Education Team to chat about some strategies to help you juggle your responsibilities and practice self-care so that you can thrive at Laurier.

4:00PM-5:00PM: International women’s day (RCE004)

Award-winning researcher, social worker, and member of the Waterloo Region city council Jen Vasic will share her excitement and simultaneous struggles around navigating the transition from community advocator to community decision-maker. Light refreshments will be provided.

6:00pm-7:00pm: Hot Yoga (MOdo yoga)

6:00pm-11:30pm: Vaisakhi Mela Celebration (Brantford Convention centre)

Please sign up at Laurier international Facebook page. Vaisakhi Mela celebrates the Punjabi New Year. It will be a dancing celebration. Come and dance to a variety of rhythms.Social with free food – childcare provided for mature/transfer students.

Thursday March 7th

9:00AM-9:30am: CROSSFIT/BURN hitt class (Crossfit durst)

A workout composed of body weight movements + strength training and high-intensity conditioning.

12:00pm-4:00pm: Mature learner study space (Mpr)

Collaborate and study with other mature learners and transfer students. From 2-3pm, we will host Sara Neziol from Academic Advising, who will be available to answer questions about spring courses, program/GPA requirements, and adding minors/options to a degree. We will also have Christine Porterfield in the space from 2-3pm to answer questions about transfer credits.

2:00pm-3:00pm: Eat Right, Think bright workshop (CB100)

Do you have balance in your life? How does nutrition play a role in mood, focus, and motivation? Engage in these important discussions in this one-hour workshop in partnership with Wellness Education for Thrive Week. Registration required: https://web.wlu.ca/studentsuccess/portal/

Friday March 8th

8:00am-5:00pm: Extramural mens & women’s basketball tournament (Laurier Brantford YMCA Single & Double Gymnasiums)

Come cheer on your Men’s & Women’s Extramural Basketball teams as they take on other OCAA schools in a day full of basketball!

12:00pm-1:00pm: learn how to dance forro (Faw-Haw)! (Laurier brantford ymca studio a)

According to Collins dictionary, Forró is a style of popular music and dance that originated in the north-east of Brazil, but which is now popular all over the country. The instruments which feature in forró are the accordion, the bass drum and the triangle, and it is danced with a partner.
