Faculty Association Fee “Yes” Campaign

More Resources. More Opportunities. More Clubs & Associations.

The Clubs & Associations department is seeking a “Yes Campaign” during this election period. By voting yes, you are voting in favour of a new Faculty Association Fee that will be implemented to assist all faculty and program associations. This fee will be voted on by Laurier Brantford undergraduate students except those in Criminology, Leadership and Digital Media & Journalism, as this fee is the same to one that was passed in 2015 for students in those programs.

This fee will significantly enhance opportunities and stability for these associations within the Clubs and Associations department. The Faculty Association Fee will provide every Faculty and Program association with greater access to resources and opportunities that will help them continue to grow within the Laurier community, while also enabling them to provide a wider range of programming and events for all Laurier Brantford undergraduate students.

When you vote on January 30, 31 & February 1, you will see this Referendum Question on your ballot:

“Do you support a new Undergraduate Faculty Association Fee of $15 per full-time student per term or pro-rated per part-time course in order to support Faculty and Program student associations that provide resources for student clubs and events? This fee will be adjusted annually by the cost of inflation (consumer price index)”

Will my Faculty/Program Association lose funding?

The Faculty Association Fee of $15 will be paid by all undergraduate students and collected by the following Faculty Associations on the Brantford campus:

  • Faculty of Liberal Arts Student Society (FLASS)
  • Human and Social Sciences Association (HASSA)
  • Faculty of Social Work
  • Lazaridis School of Business and Economics

How will the money be disseminated amongst all associations?

The Faculty Association executive teams will work together to disseminate funds equitably to clubs and program associations under their purview.

Why is this fee necessary/important?

As of right now, associations are generously funded by the Dean of Students’ Office. However, this funding will not always be made available to the department, at which point, there would no longer be reliable funding available for any associations. Therefore, this Faculty Association Fee enables every association to be student-funded, guaranteeing reliable funding and maximizing opportunities each year.

The Faculty Association Fee will provide every Faculty and Program association with greater access to resources and opportunities while also enabling them to provide a wider range of programming and events for all Laurier undergraduate students on the Brantford campus.
